File this under: cool things forever happening in Chicago.
For those of you who are not familiar with Chicago Ideas Week, it’s a a festival here that brings together incredible humans doing amazing work from ALL industries. Think of it as a rally to vibe and learn from each other – ultimately inspiring each one of to fearlessly pursue the ideas that help change the world.
I’ll be attending to the specific talk, Innovating from Within: When the Entrepreneurial Spirit Never Stops. Be on the lookout next week for a full recap of highlights from that night! I’ve found that perspective is one of the greatest things to work through ideas as a entrepreneur. Check out this lineup of amazing leaders in their well-respected industries:
So why this talk – and why does this matter to me? I get this question often from readers: what do you actually DO? Why did I choose to pursue dietetics….with an MBA?
It’s because I saw potential in pursuing a career that combined my passion (nutrition) with both communications + media – as an entrepreneur and businesswomen. While many of those in dietetics pursue a clinical career (which is amazing and much needed!), I’ve always been that girl in class working through ideas that are more creative. Ideas that were a little different from industry standards, but I wasn’t afraid to diverge from a traditional route to pursue it! If I had one piece of advice to current dietetics students looking to get involved in the business world, it would be to just fearless do it – no holding back allowed. Network, reach out to those you admire, attend events such as the Chicago Ideas Week – it’s amazing what you can do if you just set your mind to it.
If you have questions about pursuing an unconventional career in dietetics, you can always reach me at may@nutritionhappens.com. I’d love to hear from you – even though future posts are en route to share my experience as a nutrition professional in business, so keep your eyes on your inbox.
